To Be One With Him, part 2…

(Read part 1 of this article here.)

The title of this article comes from Jesus who was about to complete the work the His Father gave Him to do.  In John 17: 22-23 we read,

I have given them the glory that you gave me, that they may be one as we are one:  I in them and you in me.  May they be brought to complete unity to let the world know that you sent me and have loved them even as you have loved me.

There are so many different churches that are not completely one.  Some Christians will spend much of their time disputing over the smallest things that do not amount to anything while the rest of the world is passing by and going to a Christless eternity.  Jesus said that He gives us His glory for one reason:  so that we as believers will be one just like He and His Father are one.  I have often asked myself why these were some of Jesus’ last words on earth.  He revealed to me that if two of us are together in Him, there He will show up with power because of the unity that there is between them.

Matthew 18:20  For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them.

Where Jesus is in the middle of people, there is power.  In Holland, the land of my birth, we have an incredible slogan on the country’s emblem.  “Eendracht maakt macht” which means “Unity makes strength.”  We truly are strong when we walk in unity as God’s children.

In my church the church leaders have a summit every January.  For us, this is the highlight of the year.  We have pastors, interns, and guests fromm all over the world.   My husband and I have experienced His very presence there for many years. It always causes us wonder in astonishment when we observe and experience God’s power in such a deep and powerful way.  It seems  as if God steps into our midst as we stand in awe of His presence.  Many of us are set free from bondages we have carried for years.  We may not have even known we had some of these issues, until with His tender mercy and power He revealed them to us through others who prayed for us.  God’s heart I know is delighted where He sees nations and different churches come together for one reason:  to seek His face.  The summit seems to become a place where He is free to do what He loves best:  show Himself to His children.

Above we have a picture of the church that walks in oneness with the Father and His children.  The church is flooded with water representing the water of His word.  This church is also on fire with His presence which causes His people to live a pure and holy life.  The tree in the middle of the church is a representation of His people being a strong fruitful tree bearing all types of fruit.
