Do you ever find yourself making all sorts of decisions and plans without requesting an answer from God? Maybe it does not occur to you to ask God, or you may think you can solve the issue yourself, or perhaps you have decided that the problem is too small and not significant enough for God.

Joshua had a similar problem by not asking God. He decided to sign a peace treaty with a binding oath amid enemies who disguised themselves as friends. These friends turned out to be the enemy. Had Joshua consulted His God, he would have been instructed not to sign the treaty but to destroy the enemy. Consequently, the enemy could not be destroyed because of the oath that was made between them (Joshua 9:18) Joshua knew that if he broke the oath, the wrath of God would be upon him and the nation as well.

If God is aware of every cell in our body, every breath we breathe, every tear we shed, the time we get up or when we sit down, what and when we think, then how much more does He care about the smallest detail of our lives? He guards us day and night and His desire is that we are totally open, naked and humble before him. It is His workmanship within us that keeps drawing us to Himself, and His Spirit wonderfully magnetizes us to come closer still, renewing us to become like Him.

When we are transparent in asking for the smallest thing that is on our heart, we begin to see how really big He is and how He delights to pour His grace on us in abundance. Is this not the desperate compelling of our hearts–to be totally open before Him with the smallest request? God does not turn His back on our small whisper asking for His help. He delights Himself in giving us more than we could ever imagine, but He wants us to ask, believing He is an active God who fights on our behalf. He is more concerned with the condition of our hearts and our personal relationship with Him than how we think He should answer our petitions. He rarely, if ever, answers the way we think He should.

Often, when we do not know our place in Him, we assume the place of God. We then fall into a trap of unbelief and despair, not realizing that He has a different way of answering than we expect. We then often fall into self-pity and become the victim of doubt. When we hang onto things tightly, thinking or imagining how He should answer, we fall into a cave of loneliness and isolation. We begin thinking God has forsaken us or that He does not even know we are around or exist. Our faulty perception must cease in order for us to see the real God who loves us with an infinite love, even though He does not grant our request the way we think.

I sense the Lord asking us, “Even though I have created each leaf of every tree and each feather of every bird and I know you by name, shall I not take you into my paths that will give you My life, My healing and My blessing?”

Below is a hummingbird drinking nectar from a flower. The Lord wants you to know that even as He takes care of the birds, the flowers of the field and all mankind, He will all the more take care of your smallest request, for your life, your ministry and for your loved ones.
