Have you ever been afraid of the darkness? It can be a terrible thing to feel like you cannot see your hand in front of you and feeling the chilling pain of the dense isolation of the dark.

When we are in a room occupied by roaches and  the light is activated, the small  creatures run and disappear into hiding places. They will not come out as long as there is light. When God turns the light on in our life and exposes the darkness, we have the opportunity to either hide the things we are familiar and comfortable with, or we can surrender our offenses, become clean, and walk in His light. We know that often the things we hang on to are improper, illegal or harmful to us, but He is more than willing to set us free. Coming to His Light can mean death to us as we surrender the “sin that so easily besets us”. When our sin is exposed by His Light,we can look at the darkest, blackest offense and sin right in the eye and chase it away from us with the word of God.  Then, with deep conviction and assurance from His heart, we never have to let it come back into our lives. The light causes our transparency to become a garment of protection from the sin and darkness that so quickly attacks us. After we have dealt with a dark stronghold, habit or darkness in our life, we need to begin to change our way of thinking, by playing new recordings, renewing our mind with the word, and being closely aware of old habits and ways of thinking that can pull us down and away from the center of our relationship with Him. We need to begin to exist for the fulfillment of His love rather than the enjoyment of the moment. It is very easy and “comforting” to go back to the familiar of old habits and sin, the enemy knows that so well; consequently he throws things our way that are very hard to resist in our own energy, tenacity and endurance, simply because we have lived with it so many years, and have become familiar with the dilemmas of the past. 2 Cor. 5:17.”Old things have disappeared, and-look!-all things have become new!”( ISV) During times of testing and darkness, the best thing is to recognize we are being pulled back into the familiar area of sin, expose it to the Light- Jesus Himself, who knows our every thought, even before we think it and purposely walk into the other direction. We need to let Jesus become our first choice not our last maneuver or resort. It is all about our choices-light or darkness.

I hear the Lord say to us:” When you make the right choice to follow Me into the light I will be the first to help you choose the right pathway for your life, for I am your completeness. Without Me you will have darkness as your slave, but with Me you will have freedom to move in My direction.”

Below is a picture of an old shoe. It is a shoe that has been worn and is still comfortable to the owner-like old habits and offenses. Sometimes it is rather difficult to get used to new shoes. They can hurt, give us blisters and feel strange and awkward in the beginning, but pretty soon we will be used to the new shoes and then they become a part of our new walk that is preceded by His light. God desires us not to become comfortable with the familiar, it can become a dark place in our life and is an offense to Him, therefore, He constantly challenges us to new things while He allows His Light to shine on the dark and familiar things in our walk with Him. This can mean that we need to be flexible and become capable of readily change and growth.
